Israel, the ultimate treasure for the tourists

Many people love or hate Israel for their personal, political and economical reasons, where religion plays a role, as the security.

Those are subjective reasons to make up someone’s mind about the country Israel. But when you look at actual facts, you will discover why Israel plays such role in the world politics and why there are so many people reacting so extreme when they hear the word ‘Israel’.

Which country or people or tribe existed more then 9,000 years ago? Which people or tribe was able to build a city more then 9,000 years ago? I can answer that. It was Jericho, the oldest city in the world. In that time, there was no nation on earth. There were also no Jews, no Arabs, no America or Europe! Only the city Jericho. And please think! Before a tribe or people could build a city, they needed to exist already for a long time and evolve into a stage to be able to live together!

Tel Megiddo

And then we have Tel Megiddo. This was an ancient city state, it was created 7,000 BC and existed until 586 BC. That city was as ancient as Jericho, but existed longer and had a longer, and more important role to play in history.

Jericho though was special by itself, because archaeologists found traces of more then 200 different cities where Jericho was located! And because Jericho was mentioned multiple times in the scriptures, everyone knows that name.

And that was all long before the Jews and Arabs trying to claim the country. As if they have any right! With the Jews and Arabs, we had also the Babylonians, Canaanites, Aramaeans, Samarians, Ancient Egyptians, Israelites, Philistines, Romans, Ottomans, British, French claiming whatever they may claim.

And don’t forget, Israel has another side, which is not so known. If you look to its history of almost 10,000 years, you see that many invaders share the same thing, and that is that they are absorbed into this country. Where they once were the victors of big battles, soon they were part of the landscape, merging with the other peoples in this country. Don’t believe me? Look at the newest addition, the Jews. The European Jews are almost not recognizable anymore. Their children are already real Middle Eastern Israelis, and their children are the natives of this country and area, sharing the cultural aspects of the other cultures, derived thousands of years ago and still ruling this region.

And then we have the poor archaeologists working in Israel. You might think that they did/do a good job unearthing the ancient history of Israel, but in reality they unearth a tine part of a percentage! Each week in Israel, a new ancient artifact pops up, an old city, an old palace, churches, landscapes, mysterious tunnels and caves, new Neanderthals, etc.

To skip this almost ten thousands years of history, today we have the Israeli state, a democracy, who welcomes everyone from any background, nationality and culture to visit this amazing country in full freedom and safety.

This country, which is the place where three major religions claim their roots in the region, starting from Judaism to Christianity and later by Islam, all of them ruled by their Holy Books telling their story and history of this country. Those three religions invested heavily in this country and if you visit this country, you see it yourself.

Jerusalem Old City

If you look to Islamic architecture, for a western person it’s beautiful. If you look at the architecture of the ancient and old Christians, it’s beautiful.

If you see them all together, it’s breathtaking. Those thousands of years old buildings, together with breathtaking natural scenes, and the variety of different climates where you can ski in the north and back in the sun in the south!

If you visit the north of Israel, you can see nature in action, which is not normal. It’s full of pure, undiluted, undisturbed nature.

In the south, you see the desert in it’s full glory. In the middle of Israel, you see a total different natural landscape, not the least more or less impressive compared with the rest of Israel.

And woven between and within it, there are the traces of hundreds, maybe thousands of different peoples, tribes, cultures and civilizations, destroyed and gone and/or merged with the rest of the people living here.

In the north of Israel, where once mighty cities ruled, part of huge civilizations, there are now reduced to ruins, it’s people merged with the rest of the people living in Israel, and new cities have arisen from the ashes of others, like Jerusalem.

Jerusalem

Jerusalem

Even that the history of Jerusalem is impressive, compared with the history of Israel itself, you almost can call Jerusalem young. What does a few thousands of years of history compare with the almost 10,000 years of history of this country?

Yeah, that sounds funny, not?

Anyway, history might be interesting, but what makes the day for a tourist is a vacation between the traces of all those civilizations, ten years old, some hundreds years old, maybe some thousands of years old?

Honestly, it doesn’t matter. The results are unique in the world, there is no other place what can show a visitor of other countries such variety of sights. If it is for someone interested in hiking, a tourist who want to visit the religious aspect of Israel, a person seeking for spiritual guidance and release and renewal, a globetrotter, unique fauna, the cold or the heath, it’s people and their habitat, their culture, their paintings and statues, the ancient ruins, the archeology, their unique dance, theater or architecture and not to forget the food, it’s all here in Israel and so much more. All of that forms the country Israel, drawing its boundaries around such variety of almost everything for the visiting person and its natives; if they are Jewish, Arabic, Druze, Chinese, Russian, American, European, Turkish, Iranian, Iraqi, African, Asian, Australian … it doesn’t matter, they are all here. It’s truly worth many visits to this unique country.

You will eat in the North Russian and Ukrainian food, Druze food and Israeli delicatessens and Arabic food in various variants and in the south you eat with the Bedouins in the desert, in Jerusalem dine at the best restaurants, and eat at the markets, and in the north again eat the food Jesus ate, or the food people ate thousands of years ago, or the Chinese rice table in and around Jerusalem!
